Important Student Cover Limitations

*Student Cover: for students' case study work, or for other work prior to qualification being obtained, relies on the following for cover to operate:

  1. You must be deemed competent to practice by your college and must not practice outside the scope of what you have been taught. Regular supervision and/or ongoing case consultation/review for such case studies must be in place.
  2. Students are to declare to clients/patients in advance that they are not fully qualified.
  3. You may charge a fee provided this is a modest amount and evidently lower than an experienced and qualified therapist would normally charge.

Advanced Skin Peels - Up to 50%

The Advanced Skin Peeling extension is available for Beauty Therapists with the relevant basic experience and pre-requisites. This extension covers for 10-50% AHA glycolic peels or equivalent. (example: Glycolic acid is one of the alpha hydroxy acids (AHA)). An accredited ASP course must have been completed to qualify for this extension. Treatments must only be carried out by a trained practitioner holding a qualifying certificate who is either a Beauty Therapist with a minimum of a Level 3 Beauty Therapy qualification, a nurse or a doctor.

Advanced Piercing - Nose & Cartilaginous Ear

The Advanced Piercing extension is designed for experienced piercers who have completed the Basic Course and wish to pierce the cartilaginous portion of the ear, nose or navel. An accredited advanced piercing course must have been completed to qualify for this extension.

Advanced Electrolysis

The Advanced Electrolysis extension is designed for therapists that are already fully trained and experienced in basic electrolysis and have obtained the relevant A&P modules. Cover for the AE extension is for removal of skin tags, milia and thread veins. Other uses are available for insurance under this category, however GP referral may be required. An accredited AE course must have been completed to qualify for this extension

Micro Needling

Needle sizes must not be longer than 1mm roller or 1.5mm stamp for facial treatments and 1.5mm for body treatments. An accredited Skin Needling course must have been completed to qualify for this extension and the applicant must hold a minimum of a level three (or equivalent) qualification.

Micropigmentation

Including basic and advanced procedures for eyebrow, eyeline, camouflage scar tissue, lipline and blend. An accredited Micropigmentation Course must have been completed to qualify for this extension and meet local authority and AIT criteria

Sunbeds (maximum 4)

This extension is for 1 to 4 beds maximum in any one premises and a fully trained therapist must be onsite. Unfortunately, this extension excludes specific tanning shops/venues. A fully qualified therapist must be at location to qualify for this extension.

Colonic Hydrotherapy

Colonic Hydrotherapy Also known as colonic irrigation, involves flushing waste material out of the bowel using water. This treatment is only available to registered Nurses, or equivalent regulated standards.

AES Divine Pro

Divine technology from AES for skin rejuvenation and Mesotheopy uses. Practitioner must hold Level 3 Beauty Therapy general qualification (or equivalent) and have an accredited manufacturer’s training certificate. With this technology, it is a requirement that service intervals are maintained.

AES Lipofirm Pro

Lipofirm Pro technology uniquely combines two technologies - TriLipo Radiofrequency (RF) and TriLipo Dynamic Muscle Activation (DMA). Use is exclusively for the delivery of non-invasive fat removal and lymphatic drainage, as well as skin tightening. Please note: This is not the LipofirmPlus machine as AIT are unable to cover for cavitation. Practitioner must hold Level 3 Beauty Therapy general qualification (or equivalent) and have an accredited manufacturer’s training certificate. With this technology, it is a requirement that service intervals are maintained.

Cryolipolysis

Cryolipolysis is the procedure commonly described as ‘fat freezing’. Practitioner must hold Level 3 Beauty Therapy general qualification (or equivalent), hold an accredited Cryolipolosis course, which must have been completed to qualify for this extension and have at least 3 years’ industry experience in a salon or clinical environment.

Teaching

This extension indemnifies the insured member for allegations of negligence against them arising from the delivery of the courses and from student activity but does not extend to cover the individual student themselves if personally sued. If the treatments are being performed in and out of the college by trainers, cover is applied. AIT membership and extensions will be required. This cover is for where someone is a corporate entity and delivering a qualification for this extension it makes no difference if the course delivery is classed as short or long.

Mesotherapy

The therapist must have at least level 2 skincare module plus level 3 in general beauty and completed relevant AIT accredited training in Mesotherapy. Needle length depths can vary between 1-4mm and is only permitted within trained guidelines to a maximum of 4mm. Local Authority permission and approval must have been granted if applicable to therapist / salons geographical location.

Cryopen

An accredited Cryopen course must have been completed to qualify for this extension and the applicant must hold a minimum of a level two Beauty Qualification / A&P

Microblading

As with Micropigmentation extension: Semi permanent makeup in this form is trained with the use of a specially designed blade over standard procedure. Practitioner must hold an AIT accredited provider training certificate and meet local authority minimum criteria.

Acupuncture

This treatment extension is designed for complementary therapists who are fully trained in acupuncture, hold a suitable massage qualification and relevant industry experience.

LED Light Treatments

Practitioner must hold Level 2 Beauty Therapy qualification (or equivalent), and have an accredited manufacturer’s training certificate. Examples of this technology include the CACI LED facial platform. Machines must be used in line with manufacturer training, servicing intervals and comply with BS or EU standard.

HIFU - High Intensity Focused Ultrasound

Practitioner must hold Level 2 Beauty Therapy qualification (or equivalent), and have an accredited manufacturer’s training certificate. Examples of this technology include the AES Geneo platform. Machines must be used in line with manufacturer training, servicing intervals and comply with BS or EU standard.

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning - For the use as an exfoliative technique for skin surface and to remove fine hairs. Practitioner must hold an AIT accredited manufacturers training certificate and meet local authority criteria

This policy is hereby extended to indemnify the policyholder for the provision of Advanced Electrolysis by way of AIT/Balens approved devices.

Exclusions applicable

The insured shall not undertake treatment of clients:

  • Who wish to have hairs removed from moles without a doctor’s consent
  • Who wish to have moles removed without a doctor’s consent
  • Who are under the age of 16 unless a signed consent is received from a guardian

Subject to the operator holding the necessary certificate of competence and only using the equipment that is designed for this purpose and which is regularly serviced and maintained.

Subject to all other terms and conditions of the policy.

Advanced Skin Peels

AIT advanced skin peeling extension

Exclusions applicable

The insured shall not undertake treatment of clients:

  • Who have not received a thorough consultation and been provided with the appropriate before and aftercare advice in written format
  • Who have not had a patch test
  • Who are taking photo sensitive medications including Roaccutane and antibiotics.
  • Who have medical conditions that cause thinning of the skin or loss of sensitivity.
  • Who have open cuts and wounds, allergies to Aspirin or use of Retinoic Acid or Retin A products
  • Who are pregnant
  • Who are under the age of 16

Treatments must only be carried out by a trained therapist who holds a qualifying certificate.

A patch test must be performed on the client at least 24 hours before the first treatment and renewed every six months.

Mesotherapy

AIT Skin Needling/Derma-Rollering/Micro Needling increased needle length extension

This policy is hereby extended to include Skin Needling using AIT approved products subject to the following conditions:

  • A new unit is used for each new client and is allocated to that client only by a numbering system. Such units are to have been irradiated before delivery to the salon by the supplier or maker.
  • After each use such items are to be sanitized according to the makers specifications and instructions
  • Client to be given adequate pre and post treatment information as to potential side effects and aftercare instructions
  • Maker’s consultation and consent forms signed by the client and makers own leaflets to be used and be kept for a minimum period of 7 years
  • Maximum needle length must not exceed 1mm roller or 1.5mm stamp for facial treatments and 3mm for body treatments.

Subject to all other terms and conditions of the policy.

Microblading (including Scalp)

AIT Micropigmentation/Microblading and Semi-permanent Make Up Extension

The policy is hereby extended to indemnify the policy holder for the provision of Micropigmentation/Semi-permanent Make Up by way of AIT/Balens approved products or devices.

It is hereby noted and agreed that these treatments are included subject to the following conditions:

  • Manufacturer’s pre and post treatment procedures being adhered to.
  • Cover excludes clients with contraindications stipulated by the manufacturers.
  • Cover excludes any claims relating to a change in the pigmentation of the skin as a result of the treatment.
  • Pre and post treatment advice in accordance with manufacturer’s information is provided to the client and is suitably recorded.
  • The operator only using the equipment that is designed for this purpose and which is regularly serviced and maintained.
  • The policy will cover you to practice the techniques of your qualification: eyebrows, eyeliner, lip liner, lips, blusher etc.

Subject to all other terms and conditions of the policy.

The policy is hereby extended to indemnify the policy holder for the provision of Micropigmentation/Semi-permanent Make Up by way of ABT/Balens approved products or devices.

It is hereby noted and agreed that these treatments are included subject to the following conditions:

  • Manufacturer’s pre and post treatment procedures being adhered to.
  • Cover excludes clients with contraindications stipulated by the manufacturers.
  • Cover excludes any claims relating to a change in the pigmentation of the skin as a result of the treatment.
  • Pre and post treatment advice in accordance with manufacturer’s information is provided to the client and is suitably recorded.
  • The operator only using the equipment that is designed for this purpose and which is regularly serviced and maintained.
  • The policy will cover you to practice the techniques of your qualification: eyebrows, eyeliner, lip liner, lips, blusher etc.

Subject to all other terms and conditions of the policy.

This policy is hereby extended to indemnify the policyholder for the provision of Ultra-Sound, Ultrasonic Lipo-cavitation and Radio Frequency therapy by way of AIT/BALENS approved devices.

It is hereby noted and agreed that these treatments are included under the range of treatments offered subject to:

  • Manufacturers pre and post treatment procedures are adhered
  • Cover excludes any clients with the contra indications stipulated by the manufacturer
  • Pre and post treatment advice in accordance with manufacturers information is given to client and recorded suitably that it has been given
  • The operator holding the necessary certificate of competence and only using the equipment that is designed for this purpose and which is regularly serviced and maintained.

Subject to all other terms and conditions of the policy.

This policy is hereby extended to indemnify the policyholder for the delivery and certification of accredited courses. This will include a maximum of 6 teachers and 450 students per year.

This extension indemnifies the insured member for allegations of negligence against them arising from the delivery of the courses and from student activity but does not extend to cover the individual student themselves if personally sued.
